Purpose for church of Christ Recovery

“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is those very Scriptures that bear witness about me.”  John 5:39

Jesus spoke these words to the Pharisees of his day.  These words hit at the heart of their teaching that “one can be made righteous by rule keeping.”  They were replacing faith in the God who saves with obeying rules and most all of those rules were made up by the Pharisees.

Times have changed and Jesus no longer walks the earth, however the Pharisees are still with us today.  They come in various forms and the one I’m most familiar with is those of the Church of Christ.

The Church of Christ is just like the Pharisees of old, in that they exchange a relationship with God for a relationship with rules with some of those rules coming because they made them up.  The Church of Christ practices, teaches and explains that you have to follow their interpretation of the Bible in order to go to Heaven.

As will be seen through the Church of Christ Recovery ministry, they twist Scripture and take passages out of context to support their conclusions.  They use guilt and shame as a tool to those who dare question their interpretation.

The purpose of the Church of Christ recovery ministry can be found in the following:

 Expose:

At the start this is a TWO part effort: 1. Expose Truth & 2. Expose Error.

Having full exposure to the Church of Christ on every level I can personally attest that I know of no other denomination with an equal amount of error.  There are a number of teachings in the hard core Church of Christ that is outright wrong.  Many of the examples on this site are not just matters of opinion.  The Church of Christ have added requirements to the gospel of Christ and this can not be ignored.

Every posting on Church of Christ Recovery, from the topics to the discussions, interpretations, writings and even the questions answered will help you to see what truth is & enable you to better discern error?

Educate:

Ignorance is no friend. The desire is to put forth the Bible that is IN CONTEXT and also CONSISTENT.  These are two serious flaws in the Church of Christ.  Their teaching, writing and preaching has difficulty keeping the Bible in context.  Texts are twisted so as to have the appearance of truth.

 Encourage:

God loves you. God has a passion for his children.  He has spared nothing to attain them.  He is patient, loving, kind, compassionate and awesome. The desire is that you rest in the glorious grace of God.

We want to encourage a healthy relationship with God.  Church does not have to be the burden that the hard core Church of Christ has made it.

 Emancipate:

“It is for freedom Christ has set you free: stand firm therefore and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1) “

The words in Galatians ring true today just as they did when first written.  The hard core Church of Christ is the modern day Pharisee. This comes as the result of making Christian rules and laws that are not in scripture.  This comes by taking tradition and making it equal with God’s word.

Jesus, in speaking with a group of religious leaders who were also twisting and adding requirements to Scripture, said this, “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are”  (Matthew 23:15)

The hard core Church of Christ has perverted the simple love and grace of the gospel message.  It has made it into a list of duties & a list of requirements.  It has failed to teach and understand the over arching glory of Christ and that the call of New Birth is about a heart change that comes ONLY from the grace of God.

You will NOT find a perfect church in this world.  You will NOT find a perfect person in this world.  If you are considering leaving the church of you CAN find a group of believers that will better represent the love of Christ.  If you are a leader in a Church of Christ you are in a position to center your church on Christ Jesus and glorify Him.
